I\u2019ve never really gotten this Thanksgiving day thing\u2026 as a Canadian I wasn\u2019t raised with it and it always seemed forced and obligatory.\u00a0 Yesterday I was dreading it – ritual and consumption without meaning. \u00a0But this morning I woke very early, slipped outside into the quiet of daybreak, and breathed in the expectant air of things about to happen. \u00a0I let down my guard and was instantly filled with gratitude. I suspect it was in me but somehow disengaged. \u00a0I felt gratitude for my family, for our health, for fortitude in our times, and for the community that I\u2019ve been privileged to experience this past year as I\u2019ve traveled from town to town, sharing the work — where I witnessed, in awe, the passion and aspirations of artists everywhere, all sharing in the desire to fulfill our creative capacity.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This journey culminated in Saturday\u2019s 99 Actors Day in LA with the convergence of actors and colleagues all striving for remedy, and for something essential to shift for each of us.\u00a0 And what we all came to understand – in a profound way – is that we\u2019re really in this together; we\u2019re not alone.\u00a0 We share a commonality \u2013 our love of this thing we do along with our continuous need to reconnect with each other and with ourselves. \u00a0This binds us to each other, wherever we are in our careers and our life journeys.\u00a0 We are a community.\u00a0 And it\u2019s in this community that we find our inspiration, our resolution\u2026 our individual success along with our sense of belonging. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

That\u2019s what I realized at dawn… about this thanksgiving thing.\u00a0 It\u2019s about firstly believing in our dreams. And then in sharing our gifts.\u00a0 Celebrating each other. Expressing our gratitude. \u00a0Finding the power of connection in whatever community we realize.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m grateful for the journey I\u2019ve had this past year and how it\u2019s lead me straight home to the heart of my family and the confluence of fellow travelers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thank you for listening, for opening your hearts to me, for sharing your gifts, for being a part of my community.\u00a0 It\u2019s been deeply moving.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s to your personal and communal thanksgiving celebration.\u00a0 And to the continued expedition\u2026 together.<\/strong><\/p>\n
